Night hiking and hunting pull the optic in opposite directions. Hiking you want wide FOV - terrain awareness, see what's around you. Hunting you want detection range - narrower FOV, longer lens. Most sub-$500 units are built around one of those. Worth knowing which you'll actually use 70% of the time before looking at any specs
