everyone assumes night = perfect thermal conditions. actually pre-dawn is the worst window - animals and ambient temperature equalize overnight so contrast drops to near nothing. peak performance is 2-4am when ground is still warm and animals are active. tested this by accident trying to spot deer at 5:30am and seeing basically soup 🌫️
