Lenovo's new Yoga Tab Gen 2 tablets offer 7 years of Android updates — and a chip surprise
Lenovo has announced two new premium Android tablets at IFA 2026 in Berlin, and the headline feature isn't the 4K screen or the fast charging — it's a seven-year software support guarantee that takes both models through Android 24 and security patches until 2033. That's a longer commitment than Apple typically makes with iPads and longer than Samsung's current Galaxy Tab pledge.
The hardware
The smaller Yoga Tab Gen 2 has an 11.1-inch 4K display (3840×2560, 415 ppi) running at up to 144Hz with Dolby Vision and 1,100 nits peak brightness. Inside sits a MediaTek Dimensity 9500s — MediaTek's 2026 flagship — paired with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage, expandable via microSD up to 2TB. A 11,000mAh battery charges at 68W. There's also a rear LED indicator that pulses in time with music, video, and games — a quirky touch carried over from earlier Yoga Tabs.

The larger Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 steps up to a 13-inch 4K panel with 100% DCI-P3 color coverage, swaps in a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, and offers 12GB or 16GB of RAM with up to 512GB of storage. Its 12,700mAh battery is one of the largest in any Android tablet right now. Harman Kardon tuned the six-speaker audio system — a clear pitch at creators and media consumers. Both models support the Tab Pen Pro 2 stylus and external keyboards; the Plus adds a dedicated magnetic keyboard folio.
The chip angle
The chipset pairing is worth noting. The entry Yoga Tab Gen 2 runs the newer Dimensity 9500s, which benchmarks around 13–22% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Elite in GPU and multi-core tests, per Beebom. The more expensive Plus model uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite — an older chip by comparison. Lenovo likely made that call for software ecosystem reasons, but on raw numbers the cheaper tablet wins.

Android 17 ships on both, with Lenovo's Qira AI assistant built in. Full Gemini Intelligence features — including on-device AI processing — require 12GB of RAM or more, which means only the 12GB Yoga Tab Gen 2 config and both Plus configurations are guaranteed to run the complete AI feature set.
Price and availability
The Yoga Tab Gen 2 launches in September 2026 at €649 in Europe; the Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 at €849. US pricing hasn't been confirmed by Lenovo, but estimates put the two models around $729 and $999 respectively. That puts them between the iPad Air ($599) and iPad Pro ($1,199) — competitive territory, provided the software support promise holds and app developers keep pace with Android on large screens.
Pre-order and retailer details for the US and UK are still to be announced. Given the seven-year support window, both tablets are worth watching even if you're not an immediate buyer.
