Huawei FreeBuds 7 arrive in China with AI noise-canceling — global release unclear
Huawei launched the FreeBuds 7 in China on September 7, priced at 999 yuan (roughly $140), and the specs are hard to ignore — but anyone outside China will have to wait, possibly a long time. No US or UK release date has been announced, and Gizmochina confirmed the launch is currently China-exclusive.
The tech
The headline feature is a third-generation AI audio chip. Huawei says it scans ambient noise 400,000 times per second with just 8 microseconds of latency, and an adaptive algorithm reshapes the sound profile to your ear shape more than 10,000 times per second. The result, per Huawei, is 230% deeper noise reduction and a 275% wider frequency range compared to the previous generation.

Call quality gets the same treatment. Two-way call ANC is rated to handle up to 100 dB of surrounding noise — roughly the volume of a subway train — and the earbuds can translate your caller's speech in real time during a conversation.
The FreeBuds 7 are semi-in-ear, weigh 4.3 g per bud, and the center of gravity has been shifted 17% inward for a more secure fit. The charging case is 25% smaller and 17% lighter than the previous generation.

Battery life sits at 5 hours with ANC on, 8.5 hours without, and 42 hours total with the case. Four color options are available at launch. The earbuds support HarmonyOS, iOS, and Android — though the more advanced AI features tend to work best paired with a Huawei phone.

What this means outside China
Paton Brands speculates that a global rollout could follow in November 2026, based on Huawei's historical two-to-three month China-to-international lag. That's not a promise.
For now, the only Huawei earbuds widely available in Europe are the FreeBuds 7i, which launched in September 2025 at €99.99. The FreeBuds 7 represent a clear step up in ANC technology, but the wait — and the HarmonyOS ecosystem dependency for some features — may push buyers toward Sony's WF-1000XM6 or Apple's AirPods Pro in the meantime.
