The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake launches November 5 on Switch 2
Nintendo has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake launches November 5, 2026, exclusively on Switch 2. The original 1998 game still holds the top spot on Metacritic's all-time rankings. At $59.99 digital (£49.99 / €59.99), Nintendo is pricing a nearly 30-year-old remake below most new Switch 2 releases — a deliberate bet on brand recognition heading into the holiday window.
What's new
Series producer Eiji Aonuma confirmed the team's goal was not to reinvent Ocarina of Time but to modernize it without breaking what made it classic. The most notable additions: a full sprint mechanic, a dedicated jump button, and an overhauled camera system. Players who came to Zelda through Breath of the Wild will find the controls far more familiar — Z-targeting combat, however, remains unchanged from the N64 original.
The ocarina itself gets the biggest single upgrade. Instead of pressing button combinations alone, players can now hum or sing melodies directly into the Switch 2's microphone. Music is central to the game's puzzles — one tune shifts the time of day — so this addition has real gameplay weight. A tapestry displayed on the pause screen fills in as you progress through the story, acting as a visual quest log.
The wider picture
Nintendo announced several companion releases alongside the remake. A limited Triforce-edition Switch 2 console drops October 29 — one week early. New amiibo figures are coming, and a symphonic concert tour featuring Zelda series music has been confirmed, with Japan dates in January 2027; European and North American dates have not yet been announced.
Physical pricing sits higher: $69.99 in the US and an estimated £72.85 in the UK via Hit Collectibles, undercutting the typical £79.99 AAA Switch 2 physical price. The timing puts it directly against GTA VI, which launches two weeks later — forcing consumers to pick one or the other for the holiday.
