A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 is coming in early 2027

Game of Thrones fans won't have long to wait for more Westeros. HBO CEO Casey Bloys confirmed in a Deadline interview that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 will premiere in the first half of 2027 — roughly a year after season 1 debuted. That annual cadence sets it apart from House of the Dragon, which stretched to two-year gaps between seasons.

The story so far

Season 1 followed Dunk (Peter Claffey, Bad Sisters) and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) — a wandering hedge knight and his young squire, who is secretly the future king Aegon V Targaryen. The show is set roughly 90 years before the events of the original series and adapts George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. Season 2 picks up with The Sworn Sword, the second novella in that collection. The show earned an Emmy nomination in 2026, and production in Gran Canaria weathered a severe spring storm without shifting the release timeline, per Screen Rant citing showrunner Ira Parker.

What's next for the franchise

Beyond the Dunk-and-Egg series, Bloys confirmed that House of the Dragon season 4 — its final season — is set for 2028. That gives HBO a clear Westeros release every year through the end of the decade, alternating between the two prequels. As for other potential spin-offs: earlier reports in January 2026 suggested an Arya Stark series was in early development, but Bloys flatly denied it in his September 2026 interview. A Jon Snow follow-up is similarly off the table. For now, HBO is keeping its fantasy slate focused on these two established prequels rather than expanding into new corners of Martin's world.

With a six-episode format and an intimate scope, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a lighter commitment than House of the Dragon — easy to catch up on before the new season drops sometime in the first half of next year.
