Blizzard used BlizzCon 2026's opening ceremony to lay out the next several years of the Diablo franchise — and the scale of the announcements matches the series' 30th anniversary. Diablo V is officially coming in Spring 2029, a Netflix animated series is in development, the Amazon class is returning to Diablo IV in 2027, and the game lands on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 15, per the Blizzard official BlizzCon 2026 recap.

The next chapter

Diablo V is set roughly 100 years after the end of Diablo IV — in a Sanctuary that has already fallen. Rather than another heroic last stand, the premise puts players in a world where Diablo won. The studio has not shown gameplay yet; what exists publicly is an atmospheric teaser. Full class reveals and mechanics are deferred to a later developer panel. A Spring 2029 release window gives Blizzard about three years of development runway from now, which mirrors the gap between Diablo IV's 2019 announcement and its 2023 launch.

The Amazon returns

Diablo IV's next major class pack arrives in the first half of 2027, bringing back the Amazon — a character last playable in Diablo II. She hails from the Skovos Isles and brings a familiar toolkit: spears and javelins for close and ranged combat, bows for distance, and fire and lightning magic for crowd control. The javelin is a new weapon type for Diablo IV specifically. Pricing for the pack has not been announced; Icy Veins reports four archetypes — Champion, Skirmisher, Ranger, and Commander — with a full ability breakdown expected at a dedicated panel.

Diablo IV on Switch 2

The Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 15. The bundle packages the base game with both expansions, making it an accessible entry point for players who skipped the PC and console releases.

Season of Hell's Legacy

Also starting September 15 is Season of Hell's Legacy, a new Diablo IV season timed to the franchise's 30th anniversary. Blizzard is also running Twitch drop rewards during BlizzCon — watch streams to earn exclusive weapon cosmetics for Diablo IV and a commemorative chat badge.

The Netflix series

Blizzard confirmed a Diablo animated series is in production with Netflix. The show adapts the story of Hell and Sanctuary, though no showrunner, animation studio, or release window has been named yet. The partnership has been rumored since 2018; BlizzCon 2026 made it official. PC Gamer's BlizzCon 2026 live coverage notes Blizzard president Johanna Faries also teased potential Overwatch and Warcraft adaptations, signaling a broader media push under Microsoft's ownership following its $69 billion acquisition.
