Nubia NaviX Ultra: a dedicated AI button, ByteDance smarts, and Chinese-made RAM
Nubia has confirmed the NaviX Ultra launches September 16, 2026, and its headline trick is a physical AI button — the first on any smartphone — with a built-in fingerprint scanner that activates ByteDance's Doubao voice assistant on-device. The phone is positioned as a showcase of Chinese tech independence, pairing domestic memory chips with a homegrown AI stack at a time when US export controls are reshaping the global chip market.
The AI button
The orange side button does more than launch an app. It ties into Doubao's new Seed voice model, supports dialect recognition, and handles voice commands without routing requests to the cloud. Nubia and ZTE's deal with ByteDance — the company behind TikTok — has already earned the NaviX Ultra the informal nickname "Doubao Phone 2.0." On-device processing means faster responses and no dependency on a server connection, which sets it apart from cloud-reliant assistants like Siri or Google Assistant.
The hardware
Inside sits a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 — the next step up from chipsets already considered overpowered for most tasks. The RAM is LPDDR5X running at 10,667 Mbps, made by Changxin Memory, marking the first mass-produced domestic Chinese memory module at that speed, per Gizmochina. That's a pointed move given current US restrictions on advanced semiconductor exports to China.
To stop all that silicon from overheating, Nubia fitted a Galaxy cooling system with a 7,100 mm² 3D heat-dissipation area — a meaningful thermal envelope for a phone this thin.

Battery and cameras
The NaviX Ultra's 7,100 mAh battery is its most striking number. Most current flagships — including the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Galaxy S25 Ultra — top out around 5,000 mAh. Nubia manages this in an 8mm chassis, which is genuinely slim for a cell this large. Charging is rated at up to 80W wired plus wireless support, according to leaks cited by Gizmochina.
On the camera side, NotebookCheck leaks point to a triple 50MP rear system and a 50MP front camera — not the 200MP single sensor that appeared in earlier teasers. The display is reportedly 144Hz.
No US or UK launch yet
Nubia has not announced availability outside China. The brand has limited retail presence in the US and UK at the best of times, and with the NaviX Ultra leaning heavily on ByteDance software, a Western launch faces obvious regulatory headwinds. For context, Honor's Magic9 Super Edition managed to fit an 11,000 mAh battery into a similarly slim frame — so the competition in the ultra-battery segment is already fierce, even if most of it never reaches Western shelves.
