Boox Note Mini C brings color E Ink and Android 16 to an iPad Mini-sized tablet
Onyx Boox has launched the Note Mini C, an 8.52-inch color E Ink tablet running Android 16 with Google Play pre-installed, priced at $579.99 in the US and £549.99 in the UK. It targets mobile professionals and students who want to take handwritten notes or annotate PDFs without carrying a full laptop. That Android openness is its clearest edge over reMarkable's $339 pen-only device, which locks users into a closed ecosystem.
The display
The Note Mini C uses a Kaleido 3 E Ink panel — the current standard for color on E Ink devices. In grayscale mode it runs at 2048×1536 pixels for sharp text, and switches to 1024×768 for 4,096-color output. A front light with adjustable color temperature handles low-light reading, and Boox's Smooth Refresh technology reduces the typical E Ink flicker when scrolling or watching video.
The hardware
The tablet weighs 300g and measures just 6mm thick — close enough to iPad Mini territory to hold comfortably in one hand. It runs an octa-core processor alongside 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. A microSD slot pushes that storage ceiling to 2TB if you need it. The magnetic InkSight stylus — 4,096 pressure levels, included in the box — snaps to the side of the device.
